About

Basak Alpas Burak is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice emerges from lived experience, particularly the everyday realities of womanhood, vulnerability, and resilience. Working across ceramics, performance, painting, and printmaking, she engages with material as a carrier of memory, tension, and survival.

Her work reflects on subtle and overt forms of violence — emotional, social, and structural — embedded within daily life. Fragility becomes both subject and method: porcelain may crack, thread may bind or restrain, gesture may endure. Through repetition, physical engagement, and natural materials, she investigates how the body and domestic forms hold traces of pressure, care, rupture, and repair.

Drawing from organic processes and life cycles, her paintings and objects often incorporate natural substances, emphasising impermanence and transformation. Making becomes an act of witness — a quiet resistance and a space for reflection.

Before dedicating herself fully to Fine Art, Burak spent eighteen years in Corporate Communications and Marketing, later transitioning into education and working closely with children, including those with Special Educational Needs. These experiences continue to inform her sensitivity to care, communication, and the social structures that shape visibility and voice.

Her practice continues to evolve through material research and critical inquiry within contemporary art discourse.
