Before doing my Conceptual Art assignment I asked some questions and tried to find their answers as; what is art? What do i represent? What does the art represent? What is conceptual art and the relation between art and idea.Because an idea is the concept and my conceptual art idea with specifically word art, based on my name Basak. As definition of my name I explored the word with different practices of identifying as with materiality as agricultural idea wheat, grain practices on different artistic forms evoking a sensory experience of nature, time, and history, typology, letters writing calligraphy and different lost alphabets as different cultural and symbolic writing systems.
First of foremost I created my mind map about these ideas, experiments and research.

As my writing idea of my name,I got some books from our Morley College Library. The one I got “Urban Calligraphy” researched the letters of my name with structures and move within them as how the tree grow, how does a style move, what shapes result and repeated in nature all the time.

Conceptual Art books helped me a lot about what is conceptual art.

Sans Serif book helped me about writing my name as contemporary style; I give it conscious try, character and personality can transport a mood into the shape.I felt the shape is my platform and I got obsessed with writing the letters with different styles because I am the content.

One of my visit at Harrods i realised the window there were Amouage perfume advertising as the conceptual art represented of the iconic silhouettes of “The House of Amouage” emerge from glowing ruby sands and come alive through unique window installations.

Smell can be conceptual art as it can be all things qualify as art and the idea is this brand more important than the actual concept like the actual administration of it.I have seen the different way of seeing the one on advertising tool like perfume because woman is perceptual. We can show images of it, show holding something but perfume is a lifestyle that brand owners are selling the concept because smell is also tangible. This conceptual art made the marketing of it, made it white, super relaxing, plain bottle, there is not much more detail of it but understand that is homage .It should be engaging intellectually and of the mind instead of being engaging aesthetically so this art represents the another way of looking conceptual art.
I have visited Tate Modern dozens of times but this time it was for my conceptual art project as i have researched my name.Although his “Ghost and Sprit” combination of performance concept is disturbing, freaky and uncomfortable, i quite interested his name in different fonts in there. He played with his identity by using his signature in three different styles some sort of adolescent doodling ultimate stamp of authenticity, this reminds me how a teenager might try out their signature in a school exercise book and signatures shows personalities as his last signature subtitled “Death Trail of a Flea,” shows dark and delirious as well as fault random lines crisis between chaotic sacred and the sentimental fantasy. Quite interested in surrealistic writings.

Here is the original artwork titled The Comedian which was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan authority to reproduced this banana and duck tape on the wall.If I prioritize the idea, the banana on the wall is the vehicle of art.

Wheat is cultural idendity what referred to plant base that leads to the development of numerous traditional dishes like breads, pasta, and pastries also soup which are central to cultural cuisine.
Another research i have visited a big French traditional brand “Paul Patisserie and Bakery” family- owned company since 1889.They create their own wheat with only French soils. They have been using only French flour to make their bread and wheat-based pastries.

I bought a french bread from Paul and shared with my tutors and friends on my art critic day.

On the other hand, wheat has been a currency of power. Global wheat trade is a key factor in agriculture as food security, geopolitics, and economic stability.
Every culture have symbol of their heritage. They produce wheat and has signature wheat-based foods as China noodle, Europe pasta, pizza Middle East bread, pita, Europe baguettes, pasta, pizza, and pastries India and Asia chapati, naan China & East Asia noodles, dumpling wrappers,Turkey bread, pasta, pastry, traditional wheat ,grain base meals etc .
These dishes are not just food but rituals, celebrations, heritage, history and identity. Here is the another research of top producing countries graphic:

I researched Michael Craig-Martin’s art work “The Oak Tree”, 1973. The artwork includes a text with a sculpture of a glass of water on a shelf. Text includes questions and answers as discussed us this artwork is modern art of challenges to think about belief, language and transformation and he claims the change happens in a mental and conceptual way but not physically so that is a great example of where ideas are more important than objects.

As a conceptual art of Alter Altar which is 2024 Turner Prize winner of artist Jasleen Kaur’s exhibition. The conceptual art is about Kaur’s father’s first car Ford Escort as symbolizes the experiences of migrant families. The crocheted doily is a cultural identity consider how personal stories shared aspects of cultural sentimental memories as you can see below my grandmother’s croche cloth on our dining table.

very sentimental piece from my grandma.

When i explored and saw Marcel Duchamp’s urinal art i shocked and shocked again in Tate Modern too. The urinal was turned in to art and first i thought is not responding. Now i understand so the urinal was ordinary and Duchamp changed its meaning. He is the father of conceptual art because he changed the way, anything can be art and anything can be idea of art.

Other part of assignment research is a book called The Power of Names: Uncovering the Mystery of What We Are Called” – Mavis Himes.I skimmed this mythology book why names shape identity, destiny, and art explore names, symbols, and the art of naming, across different cultures. This thoughtful and poetic book is not only about names and language, but the author cretated the importance of her own signature.

The second book i got “The Book of Symbols: Reflections on Archetypal Images” explored the symbolic meanings behind images, objects, names, and archetypes found in mythology, religion, and art.It was useful due to the organic name art as elements & nature trees, roots also inspired from graphic designers or calligraphers i was looking for symbolic depth in letters as you will see on my developments.
