It’s wonderful that I am so excited about applying for an artist residency! This is a significant step towards furthering my creative practice, and there’s a lot to look forward to.

And here is my cover letter for artist residency;

Dear Team,

I am writing to express my keen interest in the fully funded artist residency at The Old Lock Up Gallery, scheduled for 30th September – 4th October 2026.

As an emerging artist currently completing an HND in Fine Art at Morley College, I bring a practice rooted in painting, creative research, and education. My journey into the arts followed a significant career shift from corporate communications to education and visual art—a transition that has deepened my commitment to inclusive, thoughtful, and socially engaged artmaking.

I am confident that my artistic abilities, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence would make me a valuable asset to this organization. To make the most of this artist residency, I am aligning my application with your specific goals and values, demonstrating how my work and experience reflect your mission. I have prepared a compelling portfolio, a focused artist statement, a sketchbook, and a well-defined project proposal that showcases my artistic practice particularly in printmakings, paintings and ceramics. I have also feedback to ensure the quality and relevance of my submission.

This residency presents a meaningful opportunity to focus on new work, engage with fellow creatives, and contribute to the vibrant artistic community The Old Lock Up Gallery fosters. I am confident that my interdisciplinary background, reflective approach, and passion for storytelling through visual art would align well with the spirit of this residency.

Thank you for considering my application. I would be honoured to take part and contribute to the gallery’s dynamic programme.

Warm regards,

Can’t wait to get their response about my application’s next step
